A Dental Crown is an artificial shell (often called a ‘cap’) that fits over a damaged tooth, giving it strength and restoring its natural shape. Crowns are an ideal solution for teeth that are broken or are weakened by large fillings, or have become discoloured or damaged. A crown will protect a damaged or misshapen tooth and at the same time restore its appearance. Dental crowns are matched to their neighbouring teeth in colour and shape.
A Dental Bridge consists of artificial teeth made in a single unit, and secured to the neighbouring teeth. Each end of the unit is designed as a crown so that the Bridge can be secured to the natural teeth at either side of a gap. Alternatively, a Bridge may be secured at either end onto implants, therefore avoiding the crowning of existing teeth. A long bridge may be further strengthened by the use of further implants.
